About the Club

    The Winthrop University Lacrosse Club was formed in September 2000 to provide the opportunity for Winthrop students to learn more about and play a non-traditional sport at the collegiate club level.  Membership in the Lacrosse club is open to any interested students attending Winthrop University.

     With four seasons under its belt as a club team, the men have a combined record of 12-26,  playing teams from around the Southeast including the University of Florida, the University of Alabama, Clemson University, Furman University, the University of North Carolina-Charlotte and more.  Winthrop founded the Palmetto Shootout, hosting the fall 2002 tournament in Rock Hill and the fall 2003 tourney in Myrtle Beach.    

     The 2004-05 schedule was set at the SELC meeting at Georgia Tech in September and will be finalized soon. Fall scrimmages will likely be scheduled and spring league games will take place against members of the SELC Division B.

     The women’s team continues to rebuild and recruit for 2004-05. With a strong roster, the women's team is preparing a practice schedule and planning for future games. After watching a full season of the "boys" playing from the sidelines, the Lady Eagles began competing against teams from around the Southeast in 2001-02. Armed with many experienced, athletic and enthusiastic players, the women's team is ready to field a competitive team.
