Winthrop University offers two options for individuals with undergraduate degrees to pursue initial certification in mathematics or science at the graduate level. The WISE program will offer four cohorts of support for students pursuing either option for certification in mathematics or science.

MAT5 (fifth-year Master of Arts in Teaching)

This program is designed for individuals who have completed a content degree in the area of certification within one year of application. Students must meet all MAT5 content requirements before admission and pass content licensure tests for admission. More information on the specific requirements for the MAT5 will be available soon!

MAT (two-year Master of Arts in Teaching)

This program is designed for individuals who have a) completed a content degree in a field related to the area of certification, b) content requirements that are not met through the undergraduate program, and/or c) completed the undergraduate degree more than one year before admission.
